The men's indoor track and field team was split up this past weekend as some of the men ran in the Penn State National Invitational while others participated in a meet at George Mason.
"Neither meets were scored," head coach Jim Stevenson said. "But our men's teams competed very well at both venues."
At the Penn State National Invitational meet, the 4x800 team qualified for the IC4A championships and also improved on its season best time. Gigi Gibilisco improved his personal time for the 800 meter race as well.
The George Mason meet also provided many top performances. Junior Jason Kymingham finished second in the 500m run, while sophomore Quinton Huguley placed third in the triple jump and fourth in the high jump and long jump. Jon Fernandez finished second in the shot put.
"Overall we had eight athletes finish in the top six in their respective events," Stevenson said.
No NEC teams were present at either of the meets, so it is difficult to compare this weekend's performances to the rest of the conference. Nonetheless, Stevenson is confident in his team.
"They continue to compete very well against very good Division 1competition," Stevenson said.
The end of the season is approaching with one more meet before conference championships.
"We are starting into a peak phase in the training where the athletes will start to get a little more rest and recovery so they should all be ready by the end of the season and we're confident the team will be ready," said Stevenson.
The team's next meet, the Patriot Games, will be held in Fairfax, Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 30.
