The Mount men's basketball team recorded back-to-back victories last week with a 64-52 win over Sacred Heart and a 61-56 upset of Quinnipiac.
Quinnipiac stood atop the NEC after winning eight straight games before falling to the Mount at Knott Arena on Saturday.
Freshman Raven Barber led the way against Sacred Heart, tallying a career high for a second straight game as he finished with 15 points. Junior guard Jean Cajou also added a solid performance, chipping in 13 points, four rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Senior point-guard Jeremy Goode, who leads the NEC with 3.1 steals per game, added four in the win.
Junior Shawn Atupem tallied a season high 16 points against Quinnipiac on Saturday's Homecoming victory. The Mount led from the opening tip and controlled the game throughout.
At 4-6 in the NEC, the Mount is tied for ninth in the conference with Central Connecticut and is one full game behind Sacred Heart, St. Francis (Pa), and Fairleigh Dickinson.
The Mount will take the court this Thursday when they take on the Wagner Seahawks at 7:30 p.m. in the Knott Arena. The Mount will then travel to Wagner on Saturday as the teams will play their second game against each other in only three days.
Wagner has struggled for the most part this season, standing 2-8 in the conference and 4-19 overall. Their conference wins are over Sacred Heart and Long Island. The Mount will look to ride its momentum into these two games to improve its position in the conference standings. Last season, the Mount took two-of-three from Wagner, one of which came in the first round of the NEC playoffs.
