If Charlie Brown wanted a better looking christmas tree all he'd have to do is head over to one of the farms associated with the Maryland Christmas Tree Association seeing as they have an abundance of christmas trees due to a lot of lost business from the growing popularity of fake trees. To increase business this year the Maryland Christmas Tree Association has turned to the Mount's SIFE team for help.

The SIFE team researched the advertising options available to the Christmas Tree Association. They researched prices of advertising on the radio and in local newspapers. The group will also be starting up a Facebook page. The organization is trying to spread the benefits overlooked when people choose fake trees over real ones.

Many people may say that the use of fake trees is better for the environment however, this is not true. "For every tree the farms cut down, they plant two or three more in its place," says the SIFE project organizer senior Sarah Winters.

Also when the tree sales fall so much many tree farm owners are inclined to sell their property. This property is then stripped of the trees and a residential area suddenly appears on what used to be a farm.

A major benefit of having a real tree is tradition. A number of of the local tree farms allow you to do what is called a "Choose and Cut." You go out with your friends and family to search for the tree you want to bring home and decorate. This trek for the perfect tree is fun and leaves you with great memories making it a popular holiday tradition.

Most of the farms will be opening on November 27, the day after Thanksgiving. They will remain open until December 24. The prices of the trees will vary depending on the location and if it is a "Choose and Cut" or not. For more information on the Maryland Christmas Tree Association be sure to visit their website, www.marylandchristmastrees.org. Also look out for their Facebook page which should be up soon.
