With the decade coming to a close, the Mount administration is laying out the plans for what direction the Mount will head in the next five years. In an e-mail sent to the College of Liberal Arts Department Chairs, President Thomas H. Powell's Vision Statement was presented in a skeletal sectioned outline.

Plans to further the Mount's Catholic Identity, Academic Excellence, Comprehensive Student Life Programs, Strong Financial Base and Marketing Strategies took center stage for the 2010-2015 statement.

This statement is still in the fifth draft stage and the following information and that covered in following articles may undergo changes by the time it is complete in the eighth draft.

According to the Mount Vision Statement, the Mount will continue to provide curricular and co-curricular programming to improve students' ethical leadership skills and develop servant leaders to the Catholic vision. The completion of the Grotto's Pilgrim Center will help in furthering Catholic Identity and accommodate 100,000 projected annual visitors.

In continuing the pursuit for Academic Excellence, the Mount will attempt to expand music, chemistry, and biochemistry programs to a level of national accreditation. The Mount also plans to begin an online learning program as well as a fully-realized international program that supports international students studying here.

With Comprehensive Student Life Programs, the Mount is planning to develop specialized housing as a learning-living environment and residences will become fully accessible, air-conditioned and equipped with fire-suppression sprinklers. A new student fitness/wellness center will be established to meet the growing needs of students and the community.

To maintain a strong financial base, tuitions and fees will remain at the median for the Mount's benchmark peer, which designates "a four percent increase for our tuition next year," according to Powell. While the Mount will remain focused on students in the Mid Atlantic region, the Mount plans to expand its reach to New England, the South, and internationally in selected markets.
