Sheila Curran (Career Strategy Consultant at Curran Career Consulting) says her "pet peeve" is the lack of commitment most students show in regards to RSVP. "The majority of students seem to think that a 'yes' RSVP is an indication of interest in an event…and not a firm commitment." Part of professionalism is committing to what you say you're going to do. Other signs of unprofessionalism are a poor attitude, a weak work ethic, and poor grammar in communication skills.
So how professional are we at the Mount? Recruiters who interview Mount students are asked to rate the students according to resumes, company knowledge, poise, preparation, and appearance. After speaking with Kristin Impala (Recruiting Coordinator and Administrative Assistant of the Career Center) it's safe to say that the Mount is not sending us out in work world unprepared and unprofessional. Recruiters are usually overall impressed with Mount students. However, students do need improvement in preparing for the interview and with handling job offers. In preparing for an interview students should thoroughly research the company they are applying to, have an idea of how they can be a part of that unique environment, and be ready with specific questions for the interview.
For any questions or additional information about preparing for interviews and handling job offers make an appointment with the Career Center.
