It's used by elementary school students around the country. Kids draw pictures, trace themselves, and doodle on the sidewalk. Soon, Mount students will be using their old childhood activity to promote events and clubs on campus.
The question of whether it was permitted was asked at the student forum hosted by President Thomas H. Powell on Nov. 9. "If anyone tells you that it's not allowed, tell them the President said it's okay," responded Powell.
"The chalk is a new way for us to publicize our weekend events," said Amanda Althoff, one of the office managers in CAB. "We hope to change up the media since there are so many flyers around campus."
"I'm excited for any opportunity for organizations to better promote events on campus," said McVearry. " We just hope that the idea doesn't get abused."
The office of Student Affairs is currently working on developing a policy so that students can use chalk to promote events. "I, along with Ken McVearry and Justin Janak in Campus Activities are working out the specifics of that policy," stated Dean of Students Michael Taberski.
"We also need to make sure that special areas are protected such as the new Veterans Walkway, Founders Plaza, etc.," said Taberski. "We will notify the campus community immediately when this new policy has been approved."
