Say it ain't so: bed risers must go

Residence Life only wants to make sure that students remain safe and that the dorms remain in good shape by implementing these rules. "The University's utmost concern is for student safety which is why these items are prohibited as they may collapse and could cause harm to the student", Lenfant says.
If you find that once you've removed your bed risers you've also eliminated major space, there are a plethora of things you can do to get that extra space back. Try doubling up on closet space by using closet hangers and canvas shoe bags. Closet hangers add extra rows of hangers for the extra clothes you may have stored under the bed. Use plastic storage containers that lay flat instead of the bigger ones so that they are small enough they can fit under your un-lofted bed.
Maximizing your desk space is also a good way of making your room more efficient. Adding a standing shelving unit above your desk can make extra space for books and other accessories.
The walls of your room can also be used for many things. The Mount has very strict rules about attaching things to the walls but the answer to getting around this rule is a line of products that 3M has designed called Command Adhesive hooks. These hooks use non-permanent adhesive putty that will not tear up your walls and will provide hooks to hang a lot of stuff on. They also have baskets and shelving units that use this same technology.
Overall, try to bring fewer things from home. Remember, you have a chance to go home every so often for breaks so you have the opportunity to bring things you don't need home in exchange for things you do need.

"If I didn't have then [bed risers] then I would lose a lot of space. I was unaware of the policy and I was very upset about this because it saves me so much space in my room. (Continued…)
