"It felt really great to score a critical goal because we have been in that position a lot where it is a close game and we just come up short," Pompa admitted. "It felt good to be on the winning side of the scoreboard."

Nevertheless, the win did not come easily against a Monmouth squad that refused to surrender. With her team down by two goals, Feirstein netted her third goal to cut the Hawks' deficit to one with 1:02 to play.

Monmouth won the ensuing draw control as an uneasy feeling set in for the Mount players and fans. With 40 seconds to play, Monmouth's Caitlyn Kelly launched an open shot at the legs of McTavish. Although inexperienced in close-game situations, the frosh goalkeeper demonstrated quick reflexes and savvy beyond her years by deflecting the shot and milking the clock to seal the victory.

"I knew that they were going to drive, so I was ready for any shot," McTavish recalled. "When the shot came and I made the save, I knew to just hold onto it and stall."

The Mount hopes to extend its winning streak to four as they travel to Central Connecticut State to face the Blue Devils at 4 p.m. Friday.
