Kayleigh Gelles: West coast loving

Issue date: 4/9/08 Section: Life
Spring has sprung in Italy, and once it is warm here, it doesn't resort back to winter's cringing cold ways.
Weekends have been spent at the beach, hiking, horseback riding and wine tasting, among many other things.
My two favorites have been Viareggio and Cinque Terre, both western coast getaways. Viareggio is perfect for a lazy Sunday in the sun, seeing as it is the Ocean City of Italy. Cinque Terre, alternatively, is for the more adventurous, outdoorsy types who enjoy hiking for miles.
In groups or flying solo, nearly every Italian Mountie has tripped to one of the two, if not both, destinations.
Each is a fairly cheap and only a short train ride away from Florence.
Personally I have been left yearning for summer since I got to spend one of the last days of March on a beach and the first days of April altitudes high looking down along a teal-water coast.
Summer cannot come soon enough, as we all agree, but that means that the Italian escapades are quickly wrapping up and the return to the motherland is just around the corner.
Before you know it, all of us here will be visiting our lovely Emmitsburg campus to celebrate the concluding of yet another semester. Until then, ciao tutti!
