Mount students now have the ability to go online and update their contact information with the Mount Alert System.
The Mount Alert System is a computer system that allows students to be informed instantaneously of situations as they arise on campus. This system is important in maintaining campus safety, and all students are strongly encouraged to update their information online.
To update information online, students must first go to the public safety website. Then the student should click a link on the left hand side for "myMountAlert."
The "myMountAlert" page offers a link to the "update myMountAlert" page. The student must then enter their ID number and primary e-mail address.
At that point, the student may add or change any information they would like. Students can change their address, enter up to six contact phone numbers, enter a number to receive text messages and enter an e-mail address.
This is just another step in the process of ensuring every student, faculty, administrator and staff's safety on a campus where the administration has a strong desire to maintain a safe environment.
According to Public Safety Director Barry Titler, the importance of a system like the Mount Alert System is reinforced by events such as those that took place on the Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois campuses.
"We want to be able to get information to people as fast as possible to keep them safe," said Titler, who is extremely passionate about maintaining the Mount's safe environment. Titler goes on to give examples of how the Mount Alert System can help keep the campus safe.
One of these examples being that when people hear sirens or see an ambulance they tend to gravitate to the scene to see what is going on. This can be hazardous if there were to be a dangerous situation because the students are walking towards the problem.
But with the Mount Alert System, students do not need to walk towards the scene to figure out what's happening because they will have already received word of the scenario via the alert system.
