Students are at the Mount for a serious reason, which is to get a college degree. But what are the most popular degrees that Mount students will be walking away with after their four years?
After surveying 25 random students about their majors, double-majors were found to be very popular on campus. Freshman Nick Raines explained his choice of a philosophy-theology double major.
"In order to do anything, you need to think first. And think rationally. So what better major than philosophy? And then your morals come into play. So that explains why theology is important."
Although the survey was helpful, the true answer about the most popular major lies in the hands of Dr. David Rehm, the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Business is the most popular major as 19.5 percent of Mount students study this field. The second most popular major is elementary education, with 10.2 percent of students pursuing this major.
In total, 28.8 percent of students pursue a business, accounting or economic major, followed by 11.4 percent of students pursuing an education major, followed by 10.8 percent of students pursuing a science major.
The most unusual major among Mount students is an interdisciplinary major, also known as a self-design major. Students need their curriculum approved by Dean Leona Sevick. They select their courses based upon what they want to major in. There are currently 32 students at the Mount with interdisciplinary majors. This year, 11 seniors will graduate with a degree in interdisciplinary studies.
