A memorial was created in the Peace Plaza to celebrate the life of senior Dustin Bauer who died Wednesday night at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center

Family, friends and members of the Mount community gathered Monday at Church of the Immaculate Conception in Towson, Md., to celebrate the life of Dustin Bauer.

The 22-year-old Mount senior died Wednesday night as a result of an injury sustained on early Sunday morning on March 9.

The eulogy was given by Mount senior Ryan Audy who spoke of how blessed he was to have Bauer as a roommate for the past four years. When looking back on his years at the Mount, Audy said Bauer will always be a major part of his college career.

Father Jim Donahue delivered the homely to the filled church, as he remembered Bauer as a fun-loving student who was always seen running with his cross country team around campus early in the morning.

Fr. Jim also spoke of Bauer's contributions after death, as his family decided to donate his organs to seven recipients, thus allowing Bauer to live on in others.

President Thomas Powell awarded a diploma to Bauer at his bedside on Monday night according to an Internet posting by his cousin Lauren Bauer.

On Thursday, President Powell informed the Mount community of funeral arrangements made for Bauer. The viewing was held on Sunday, March 16 at Ruck Towson Funeral Home in Towson, Md.

Throughout the week students and faculty have used the Peace Plaza as a place for prayer, a place to put mementos and as a means of quiet reflection for Bauer.

According to President Powell, a Memorial Mass for Bauer will be scheduled on campus after the Easter break after consultation with his family.
