The award for "Outstanding Service to the Honors Program" this year went to Dr. Sue H. Goliber.

Dr. Goliber, who is in her 30th year at the Mount, has taught both honors and non-honors students alike. When it came to nominate a professor who has had a significant contribution to the honors program, students were asked to send in their votes. Dr. Goliber was chosen out of four outstanding candidates.

"You really like her because she is so nice, she really cares about you and her subject." commented junior Maria Parker who also gave the speech that introduced Goliber at the honors banquet.

A speech included comments students sent in, further supporting their votes for Goliber.

One such student noted, "Knowledge of history is formidable but what made history class most enjoyable was her personality and sense of humor."

Goliber is often found talking to students outside of class and establishing strong connections between the faculty and students.

Parker went on to emphasize that class with Goliber, even on a Monday morning, dares not to be dull but provide students with witty jokes and a humorous approach to history.

Goliber will continue to do what she does best-integrate her love of history and faith with the education of students.

After receiving the award Goliber commented "I have been extremely happy here. I love teaching and love my students and the Mount has allowed me to make good friends who are passionate about teaching."

"The Mount has allowed me to grow as a teacher and a scholar particularly when the core curriculum was introduced and has allowed me to follow my passion which is studying the lives of women of faith."

"I love the fact that this is a Catholic institution, dedicated to the values and intellectual tradition of the Church. I love that I can express my faith in class and that I can share that faith with my students. I love that I can become friends with my students. I think we have some of the most wonderful young people in the world."

Goliber seems to exemplify the faith, discovery, leadership and community that make up the cornerstones of Mount St. Mary's.

Former student Nick Kostov summed up Goliber in one sentence, "Dr. Goliber is a living legend."

It seems that Goliber's outstanding service to the Honors Program also encompasses her tireless efforts to integrate faith and history while building a personal relationship with her students.
