Mount St. Mary's University President Thomas H. Powell is pleased to announce the appointment of Lynne Phelan Robinson as Director of Athletics. The daughter of the legendary Mount basketball coach and former Athletics Director Jim Phelan, Lynne has been serving as the Interim Director of Athletics since July.
"I am pleased to have someone of Lynne's caliber named athletics director at Mount St. Mary's University," says President Powell. "Throughout her career at Mount St. Mary's, Lynne has proven to be an outstanding leader who will be able to take our program to the next level of excellence. Her reputation for integrity in athletics in the Northeast Conference is second to none. I am very confident of our success under her able leadership."
Robinson earned her undergraduate degree from the Mount in 1979 and an MBA in 1983. She began working for the University in 1981 and has held a variety of positions in the athletics department. She has served as the women's coordinator of athletics, head coach of women's cross country and track teams; and more recently has been associate athletics director, compliance coordinator and senior women's administrator for the department.
"Very few women serve as Division I Athletics Directors, so I feel particularly honored that Dr. Powell has given me this opportunity," says Lynne Robinson. "In my new role I look forward to continuing to grow and improve Mount Athletics as a source of pride for our campus, our community and our alumni."
