If student attendance is any indication, there seems to be a strong desire on behalf of the student body to work towards improving our country. The FBI was on campus and in the Career Center all day Friday. Mount students signed up in advance and all day long they came in for interviews with employees from the FBI. One of which, Supervisory Special Agent Jeffrey Cannon, was a Mount graduate. Even he had to admit that they were all quite pleased with the turnout as well as very impressed with the quality kind of people the Mount is producing. "One of the things we've noticed is how professional and able all of the students that came in have been. Most of them are already, at such a young age, balancing various things at the same time, be it school, sports, work internships or whatever," Cannon said.
Interviews were not the only thing that the FBI was offering on Friday. They were actually there to offer on the spot job opportunities to any candidates that met requirements and managed to impress the FBI representatives. Nine jobs were offered to students on Friday, with the condition that they go on to pass all of further hiring requirements such as polygraph and background checks. This was the first year that they had introduced this kind of job and were hoping to continue doing so in the following years. "What we are offering is an immediate opportunity to be hired right here today as a Staff Operations Specialist at the entry level with plenty of room for promotion," Jeffrey explain, also adding that with the promotions come the opportunity to make up to $100,000 a year. The job is mostly analytical and research oriented, dealing especially with counter-terrorism. "If someone likes to have a lot of responsibility, and a lot weighing of consequence resting on their work, this is definitely the job for them."
The FBI have been visiting various other colleges, mostly smaller schools, looking to hire anywhere between 50-70 graduates this year. "We didn't want to put too much of a focus on requirements. We're looking for young, self-motivated, creative, and dynamic people who will be able to adapt and help out with the wide array of tasks and demands that this job has.
For a career path of such grave and serious outcomes, it might seem strange that the FBI is so eager to hire young students with little to no experience in that kind of work atmosphere and that kind of pressure.
With most career paths in the FBI, it is required that said applicant must have at least two years experience in a particular field that correlates to the job.
For anyone who missed this golden opportunity, all hope is not lost. It is always a good idea to get your resume ready and check the FBI Web site frequently and look over their featured jobs being offered at the moment.
