Laundryview site in service

Mount Saint Mary's residents can now participate in Laundryview, an online service from MacGrey, the school's laundry service provider. This option allows students to check the status of the laundry room without having to go there.

"It's a Saturday morning and I want to get some laundry done, but I don't really feel like going the whole way to the Terrace laundry room, especially if there aren't going to be any machines open," sophomore Adam Kauffman said. "Well…not anymore. Now, I can just go to my computer and check laundryview.com. It's great."

Students can log on to www.laundryview.com, click on their residence hall, and be directed to a 3D map of the laundry room, showing which washing machines and dryers are available. The washing machines are denoted with a W on the left side and dryers with a D on the right side.

The status of the machines is color coded. Machines are available when they are white, gray if they are out of order, yellow if they are idle, and red when they are in use. When a machine is being used, students can scroll over the machine with their mouse in order to see how much time is left until the machine is open.

Besides being able to see the status of the machines in the room, there is also the option of being notified, either when a machine becomes open for use, or when the machine with your laundry is done. In order

to use this feature, a student must register his or her information so that the alert can be set and sent to the student's e-mail or cell phone.

Another advantage of the system is that residence life staff can now check the status of the machines. They can notice and correct problems that machines may be having.

"We now check the site about once a week. We check to see if any machines are out of order, so that they may be fixed more quickly and efficiently," said Dean of Students Mike Post. "We can also check the weekly stats and see how much and when the machines are being used each week.
