A graduate of the Mount has returned to work in Residence Life under the new position of dean of students.
Michael Post, director of residence life, is now also the Dean of Students, a position that was previously filled by Meg McKeon. McKeon left at the beginning of the fall semester, and the Residence Life staff had been filling in her duties until they were able to find a replacement.
As the dean of students, Post supervises Health Services, Counseling Services, the Career Center, Campus Activities and Residence Life. As the head of Residence Life, he hears a majority of the judicial violations that occur on campus.
Students can expect to see a few changes around campus, especially in Residence Life.
One change is in the responsibilities of the new position. In the past, the dean of students has been responsible for different departments, one of which includes the Student Government Association (SGA).
Sean Adams is now the advisor for SGA and the director of campus activities, whereas previously the dean of students held that responsibility.
Although Post's position no longer heads the SGA, Post oversees Adams's work.
One upcoming project students can expect to see is the new residence hall, which is to break ground this summer.
Starting next year, Post hopes to have student polls and surveys available for student input. He is looking forward to improving the Mount and the student interaction. He prefers not to make any sudden changes because he wants to learn what the students like and what needs to be improved first.
Sophomore Maria Parker is enthusiastic about the new dean of students and thinks he will bring new energy to the school.
"For Dean Post to get to know the students better, I suggest him attending the campus activities and really getting a feel for the campus," Parker said.
Parker could not think of any immediate changes that need to occur at the Mount, but she thinks any positive influence, such as having a new dean of students, is good for the school.
