Allies upholds Catholic teachings
Issue date: 2/16/05 Section: Forum
Allies also works to uphold the mission of Mount Saint Mary's University, in particular affirming "the values and beliefs central to the Catholic vision of the person and society." That vision is that all people are beloved children made in the image of God (Gen 1:26-27). Unfortunately, homophobia in our society means that many gay, lesbian, and bisexual people have often not heard and internalized the message that God loves them fully for who they are.
One of the reasons that Allies exists on campus is so that every member of the Mount community will echo the words of the beloved hymn: "Just as I am, though tossed about/ With many a conflict, many a doubt,/ Fighting and fears within, without,/ O Lamb of God, I come, I come." In this season of Lent, Allies continues to join the Mount community as we all strive to draw closer to the Lamb of God.
