Women place eighth in conferences

Ashley Swope earns bronze medal in pole vault

The Mount women finished in eighth place at the NEC Conferencee Championships held May 1-2 at Mount St. Mary's.

Sophmore Shannon Norris finished in fourth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.49, only .3 behind the winner Roseann Hamilton of Farleigh Dickinson.  She also finished in fourth place in the 200m dash with a time of  26.08.

The 4x400 relay team of Denise Tetkowski, Mandy Jenkins, Shannon Norris, and Laura Jezek finished in third with a time of 48.46 that earned them five points.  The 4x100 relay team of Angie Jones, Tetkowski, Jessica Oravitz, and Norris finished in fourth with six points and a time of 3:58.33. 

Tetkowski also finished in fourth place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.65.

Junior Ashley Swope earned a bronze medal in the pole vault with 2.90m, .4 meters behind winner Melanie Loughlin of St. Francis (Pa.).

The women finished with 49.66 points improving their standings from day one when they sat in ninth place with 5 points. 

"We had inclement weather conditions for the vault on Sunday, so many of us did not perform our best.  But, we ended a good season with higher hopes and new goals for the next one," said Swope.

Monmoiuth won the championship with a point total of 172 while St. Francis (Pa.) finished in second with 111 points.

Ashley Huffman from Monmouth won the 2004 Female Most Valuable Performer and 2004 Rookie of the Meet as she won the long and high jumps and placed third in the 110-meter hurdles.
